Coalition Wars - Füsilier - FR
At the Pyramids

The campaign of Napoleon in Egypt (1798-1799) had the strategic aim of weakening England. Since an invasion of the British kingdom was not possible, Napoleon decided to dispute Britain's position in the Mediterranean. On 19.05.1798 the expedition started with 35 000 men.

In addition to soldiers, the French Invasion Army also brought 200 scholars to Egypt, consisting of engineers, physicians and naturalists. Their records and pictures of buildings, land and people, published in a monumental community work, formed the basis of later Egyptology.
